The comic was definitely a great starting off point, sort of graphic
sensibility of it, and the noir sensibility. But I wanted to take noir
and flip it on its head; make it with color. And add a soundtrack that
moves you into an era where it sort of lives... There is Queen in the
movie. And David Bowie, Depeche Mode... so many great '80s tracks in the
film. I think people are going to be running out to buy the soundtrack.
When used properly, an amazing piece of music can mean everything in an action sequence, which makes only makes Atomic Blonde
that much more exciting. The film is already riding high on buzz
following its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival a few weeks ago,
and we are very ready for it's arrival to domestic theaters.
You can watch my full interview with David Leitch below, where we discuss not only his work on Atomic Blonde, but also the latest developments from pre-production on Deadpool 2. Check it out!
While we don't yet know the release date of the soundtrack, Atomic Blonde will be arriving in a theater near you on July 28th

11 Apr 2017 09:58The second trailer for Atomic Blonde debuted today, giving a longer look at Charlize Theron as a spy, killing her way through Berlin on the eve of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Directed by David Leitch, a veteran stunt co-ordinator and director who helped make John Wick one of the most memorable action movies of this decade, it looks like it could be the birth of a new cinematic icon. Leitch talked us through the trailer frame by bone-crunching frame.
The sidekick role goes to James McAvoy as a spy with the very uncool name of David Percival. If his name sounds a bit like a British civil servant, his character transcends it. “[David] has been in Berlin for over ten years and he’s been living the hardcore Berlin lifestyle,” says Leitch. “He’s not a typical James Bond kind of spy. He’s more of a strung-out, rock ‘n’ roll version of that. James really brought that character to life. He’s such an incredible actor.” Percival will have his own action style, which contrasts with Lorraine’s. “He has a few action sequences and I’d say they’re a little smaller and more compact, but when he does them he delivers a big punch.”
Throughout the trailer, you get images soaked in neon. Throbbing clubs and glowing bars. Leitch wanted to get away from any clichés of the Cold War spy movie and give the film the vigour of the youthful, club-loving Berlin that was growing during the 80s. “When I got the script it was a very Cold War thriller [as we know them],” he says. “Very ‘noir’ and ‘trenchcoat and fedora’. I thought, ‘how can I make this punk rock?’ and I thought about the Berlin I knew. I’d done six movies there either as a stunt coordinator or second-unit director…This city is not that. It’s full of colour and music and life. If you were trying to be undercover in this world you wouldn’t be wearing a trenchcoat… If you’re trying to get to the underworld of Berlin it’s not suits and ties; it’s rock and roll. There’s a music video vibe to the whole movie, but more contemporary music videos than 80s ones.” It’s shot by Jonathan Sela, who Leitch worked with on John Wick. Leitch asked him to take the mood of 80s music videos but interpret them with modern techniques.
The thumping tones of New Order’s Blue Monday play over the soundtrack. The setting and time period gave Leitch plenty of opportunity to riffle through his 80s record collection. “There’s a lot of pop, a lot New Wave in there. You’ll hear Depeche Mode, David Bowie, ‘Til Tuesday. There are fifteen tracks from the 1980s and every single one is iconic.”You can read it all here: http://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/atomic-blonde-trailer-breakdown-director-david-leitch/

On August 4 arrives at the new screens Director David Leitch before releasing Deadpool 2 Atomic . The young American filmmaker presents a story of action and espionage starring Charlize Theron and James McAvoy from which thanks to DeaPlaneta EXCLUSIVE we can enjoy the first trailer in Castilian.
This new advancement of more than two minutes tells the story of the protagonist, Lorraine Broughton ( Theron ), an MI6 spy who travels to Berlin to find who are killing undercover agents for reasons still unknown. Their personal and professional lives are mixed when one of those killed is someone very close to her, so she will not hesitate to team up with the section chief in Berlin, David Percival ( McAvoy ), to jointly stop this new threat.
The Berlin Wall has fallen, but Lorraine has to keep
fighting against enemies unimaginable bringing out all its intelligence
force. This trailer shows the basis for the film, action
and passion in equal parts to get a film with energy that catches the
viewer from the first minute. While the role of Theron is someone cold and stoic remains concentrated in adversity, the McAvoy put a touch of humor, is the self - assured character.

Watch Charlize Theron kick some serious ass in Atomic Blonde
POSTED ON MAY 31, 2017 AT 9:00AM EDT
There’s another wonder woman coming to theaters this summer and she’s wearing thigh-high leather boots. In Atomic Blonde, out July 28, Charlize Theron plays Lorraine Broughton, a British spy sent to Berlin, circa 1989, to investigate an espionage ring that just killed one of her colleagues.
In this exclusive clip, above, you can witness the true collaboration between Theron and her stunt choreographer-turned-director David Leitch. The duo trained for months mastering a series of complex fighting tricks including attacking multiple foes, which she does with panache in this scene opposite armed men who are not happy with her entering the apartment of her fallen comrade.
Leitch says he was able to add to the choreography of the piece because of Theron’s aptitude with the stunts. “When you have someone who can do it, you have a lot more freedom in how you want to express it visually,” he says. “In terms of martial arts style, she gave me the flexibility to do everything I wanted to do.”
